Senior Tax Reviewer & Complex Return Preparer

Grey CPAs is looking for an exceptional, seasoned tax professional to join our team!

We’re seeking someone who can independently prepare complex tax returns, confidently review the work of other preparers, and provide outstanding service to our clients.

We’re a modern, technology-forward accounting firm embracing AI, automation, and smarter workflows. We believe experienced professionals should spend their time applying their expertise, not fighting inefficient processes.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Primarily reviewing individual, business, fiduciary, and multistate tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Independently preparing complex returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S, 1120, and 1041.
  • Identifying technical tax issues, inconsistencies, missing information, and potential planning opportunities.
  • Communicating directly with clients to obtain information, answer questions, and explain complicated tax matters in an understandable way.
  • Working independently to resolve tax issues and complete returns with minimal oversight.
  • Collaborating with our preparation team to maintain accuracy, consistency, and timely completion.
  • Using tax software, AI-assisted research, and automation to make tax preparation and review more efficient while maintaining professional judgment and client confidentiality.

Who We’re Looking For

  • At least 5 years of professional tax preparation experience, including senior-level responsibilities.
  • Extensive experience with complex individual and business returns.
  • Strong tax review experience and the ability to identify and resolve issues independently.
  • Excellent client-facing communication skills. We want someone who is friendly, approachable, patient, and genuinely enjoys helping people.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong sense of accountability.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and take ownership of work without constant direction.
  • Comfort with technology and enthusiasm for learning how AI can improve accounting workflows.
  • A collaborative, positive attitude and a desire to work in person with a great team.

CPA or EA designation is NOT required. We value proven experience, technical expertise, and exceptional client service over credentials alone.

Experience: 5+ years of professional tax preparation

Credentials: CPA or EA welcome, but not required

Pay Range: $40.00 – $50.00 per hour
